NBA Stars Make Powerful Speech On Race At ESPYs (VIDEO)

NBA stars Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul, Dwyane Wade, and LeBron James took the stage to address the recent violence taking place in the country. Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian, hosts of The Young Turks, break it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.

“The ESPY Awards began on a somber note Wednesday evening as NBA players Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul, Dwyane Wade, and LeBron James took the stage to address the violent events of the past week. “The system is broken,” Carmelo Anthony said. “The problems are not new, the violence is not new, and the racial divide definitely is not new. But the urgency to great change is at an all-time high.”

Chris Paul, the nephew of a police officer, got more specific, naming Alton Sterling, Philando Castile, and other victims of police violence. Paul invoked the tradition of athlete-activists of the past to explain their decision to speak out, from Jesse Owens to Muhammad Ali. Dwyane Wade expanded their call for nonviolence to include the shootings in Dallas and Orlando, as well as Chicago’s gun violence epidemic. Finally, LeBron James challenged his fellow professional athletes to use this moment “to educate ourselves, explore these issues, speak up, use our influence, and renounce all violence. … We all have to do better.” Read their complete remarks below:”

  1. Anna hit it when she said people who don’t believe will just continue to
not believe. Yes there’s an epidemic, but old bigots will never learn
anything outside their own ignorant bubble.

“For those who believe, no proof is necessary. For those who don’t believe,
no proof is possible.” -Stuart Chase.

  2. This comment section pretty much sums up most white people in this country.
    Lol its pretty funny actually.

    • +RealisticEnt yes I agree money is the main thing in all this we know poor
ppl are more prone to violence but again that’s not true most slaves worked
in cotton fields and as butlers most of the money in this country was
gained from the industrial movement and rail roads that’s would go to
Asians that where basically slaves did you know coal miners in this country
where basically slaves as well they give them housing and food ect for work
and pay them in rail road tokens where they would eventually end up owing
the company money so they could never quite

    • +Cody Leonard That is true about the industrial movement, but you have to
look at the residual effects. American’s original wealth came from cotton
and tabacco. That’ funded the industrial revolution which in return funded
the technology revolution. During the economic booming times, were black
people given equal access to get in it? Nope, not until 1964 with the civil
rights act. That’s when we became so called free, though redlining was
outlawed in the 70s. But anyway, we are saying the same things. We are two
different people and we agree. This is the power of honest conversation. I
      appreciate you Cody.

    • +RealisticEnt I do you too as well I like that we can have a conversation
as 2 grown men with out cursing or arguing but debating

    • +fearlessarchangel how congenial of you to admit fault, which is at the
crux of this whole debate..you can’t deny fault and at the same convicting
people for not taking fault for other issues not prevalent to the issue
they’re not taking fault for in the first place..these athletes are only
      the messengers.

  3. It’s really sad how many people have nothing better to do in their pathetic
lives other that to make a ton of fake YouTube accounts and troll TYT. I’m
seriously considering joining their website just to get away from the
    bullshit negativity.

    • How do you even know they are fake accounts? How do you know that TYT
didn’t make the accounts to harass themselves for publicity?

    • I have a lot of better things to do. Yet I watch TYT videos and
downvote/comment on them because I believe it is the right thing to do. TYT
and most of the progressive outlets breed parasites.

  4. This NEEDED to be said on such a large scale. Sounds like some racists are
    pissed…

    • +LikeABoski You should earn a PHD in missing points completely and turning
things completely around to take away from real issues. Dr. Straw Man
argument. You sir or ma’am are amazing.

    • Whites been killing us in America longer than we ben killing each
      other..#FACTS n fck your percentages & stats…..

  5. WARNING… Many people down below in the comment section are going to be
    EXTREMELY BUTT HURT.

  6. it would be kinda cool If Trump builds a wall around all the blacks !

    Donald duck #2016

    • Other than personal bigotries, there are no differences between fanatics on
the left wing, right wing or some other. They all have the same habits:
      they cherry pick anecdotes that suit their agenda and leave out all others;
they ignore any facts that are inconvenient; and they will throw out terms
like racist, communist, misogynist or whatever, even if the
definition doesn’t fit. Sjws are to the left what Pat Robertson and Glen
Beck are to the right. This irrational cop hate is just the latest witch
hunt. In a few years, that roulette wheel will spin again, and some other
      group will be the target.

    • +Will – Heck, they were pissed because a little black girl played Rue in
The Hunger Games…even though she was black in the novel. Wow. Here’s
      excerpt from the book.
…And most hauntingly, a twelve-year-old girl from District 11. She has dark
brown skin and eyes, but other than that’s she’s very like Prim in size and
      demeanor…

  7. You have to subscribe to TYT and get notifications to dislike the videos so
early. The logical person would just unsubscribe if they didn’t like the
    content.

    • +Uvonz Arga well if your spending so much time doing this least your
leaving some other poor sod alone

    • +LikeABoski I agree with somethings and disagree with other things if you
want to talk about propaganda what about faux news and alex jones

    • +The Gift Of Jericho Still, I’d rather be shot than stabbed or blown apart
      by a car bomb.

    • what about white on white crime… oh wait when your the majority you don’t
have to be marginalized. You can just call it crime… same thing as why
there’s no white history month. Its all the other 11 months but you just
      call it history…

  8. You know who would make the biggest impact as a black sports person.
Jordan, but you wont see him doing it.

    • I’m free with my praise for men like these four who use their fame to try
to bring attention to problems or to advocate for changes that they think
are important. But I don’t condemn those famous people who don’t do this.
So in my eyes, although these four men earn major points for speaking out,
Jordan does not earn any demerits for not speaking out. I respect these
guys for what they’re doing, but I don’t disrespect Jordan for not doing
      such things.

    • Yeah, MJ saying it is totally gonna stop niggas mugging other niggas for
      their overpriced Air Jordans sneakers.

    • +Kevin Lee
The fact that you were put into this situation by us both here and in
Africa proves we are better militarily than you.
Military strategy requires a high IQ to beat the enemy.
