Ex Notre Dame Coach Questionable Comments At RNC

The former Notre Dame football coach has endorsed Donald Trump, but that's not all he had to say. Cenk Uygur, Ben Mankiewicz, Ana Kasparian, and Jules Suzdaltsez hosts of The Young Turks, break it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.

Legendary retired Notre Dame coach Lou Holtz said Tuesday that immigrants coming into the U.S. made up “an invasion” and that they need to do a better job of assimilating, according to published reports.

Holtz, who supports Donald Trump, was speaking at a luncheon during the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.

“I don’t want to become you,” Holtz said of immigrants, according to the Daily Beast. “I don’t want to speak your language, I don’t want to celebrate your holidays, I sure as hell don’t want to cheer for your soccer team!”

  1. Cenk put a real positive spin on Americas history of being afraid and
    discriminating “the other”

  2. Lou is an idiot, nobody is forcing him to speak Chinese, eat sushi, worship
Islam, celebrate weird holidays, or cheer for any team you don’t like. I
live in CA, we have 2 Jewish women senators, and they have not made me
Jewish or California Jewish. We had an Armenian governor and nobody was
    forced to speak Armenian.

    • I lived in Californian briefly during that governor Duekmajian who now
seems a nice fellow compared to today’s modern Republicans. They now have a
former Catholic seminarian who was not only the youngest man to ever be
elected to the office governor of that state in his first term, but now the
oldest governor of that state when he won back the office. Who was once an
item with a part Hispanic rocker Linda Ronstadt and I never heard them
insisting anyone embrace foreign holidays or foreign ideals. The only
governors of that state that stick out negatively in my mine was the
miserable Reagan and Pete Wilson who were the ones who sowed this kind of
divisiveness, Wilson destroying their party due to his hatred of Hispanics
and those that may have been immigrants legal and otherwise, unless I’m
sure they are trophy wives from some Slavic region and sound distinctly

  3. Bigotry at the Trump led Republican Klan Rally??? I didn’t forsee anything
    like that happening.

  4. so the man with a German last name speaking a language of another country
who worked for a team with a French name dose not like foreigners

  5. Give back to the Mexicans California, Texas, Arizona, and New Mexico, land
that the US Imperialist stole from Mexico and I guarantee you no Mexicans
would want to come to what is left of this shithole place called the United
    Capitalism of America.

    • +Anticapitalist X At least you’re speaking openly and not calling everyone
racist. You’re the first person in the comments I’ve seen being this
      honest. Respect.

  6. HOLTZ, that does not sound like an Anglo Saxon name, oh it’s German, you

  7. You go Lou!!! you forgot I don’t want to hear your damn Mariachi music all
weekend at 2 am..come legal to the country or GTFO

    • But whites didn’t come legal to this country so how can you talk about
immigrants when whites never owned this country. So we all are accept for
      the natives

    • +BallinLike Kobe24 Whites came and were welcomed here by native Americans,
i know you like to tell the story of how we just came and took it, but they
were nomads and they did not mind us being here, not all Natives fought
whites either..so we came built a great nation, it didn’t exist before we
got here, Just like California was a desert Mexico didn’t care about and
sold off..after the white man comes and builds things people want to act
like we just got it for free as if we did not pay for it in blood sweat and
tears..So it’s our country we have rules follow them come through the front
door or get out..and why would you be for illegal immigration? so more
companies can pay them slave labor, more girls forced into prostitution
because they were smuggled in? make the border tough, bring people through
legal and we will raise wages because companies won’t be able to pay 20
cents on the dollar for illegal labor..it’s like arguing with the hang man
for a better rope, are you guys that stupid you do not get you are screwing
not only Americans over but yourselves?

  8. l just don’t get it because Mexicans are more American than all Americans
because most mexicans are mix native American people

    • América is a continental, not just a región or a country. There’s more
      América beyond the anglo-America dudes.

    • +Lord Defekator Yeah we all know it’s a continent. But continents exist
independent of nations. America the continent existed before humans
existed. And it has been host to many nations. And America the nation was
founded by Europeans. The natives or indigenous or whatever you want to
call them had little to do with it.

    • +john Lyon Not entirely accurate. Without Natives assisting the first
immigrants, teaching them how to survive, introducing them to corn, then
later fighting along side them in many wars against different European
nations and even against other tribes. After all this, they were completely
discarded and oppressed by European Americans.

    • +Myron Gaines They did trade with them and interact with them, I know. But
they were never Americans. They had their own people and their own tribes
and their own nations that they were a part of.

They did fight in wars alongside French and British Colonists, but usually
only with the promise that they would be given their own land and
sovereignty for their service. Obviously they were betrayed and oppressed
      by the Europeans after though.

  9. “I support Donald Trump because I’ve played on his golf course and stayed
    in his hotel”

    • +joshua G I’m not a fan. I don’t like President Obama and I’m a Republican
but rules are rules. Too much fuckery and stalling going on.

    • +joshua G also dont forget that alot if people DIDNT vote for him because
      he’s “half black”….

    • +THERON XL oh I’m not and I said a couple times it’s a dumb reason to
choose someone. There’s ignorance on both sides when it comes to choosing
in an election. But so many people vote off of these touchy feely reasons
and few seem to look at actual policy. Fewer still look at how hose
policies will work if put in place. The complacency of Americans when it
comes to actively seeking info is disturbing. I can respect people on both
sides who vote policy. Can’t respect voters like what’s his name the video
      is about.

    • +THERON XL sorry thought you wrote DID. Read it too fast. And I know, I’m
one of those people who didn’t look at his genetic tan at all when I chose.
      Picked him on policy.

  10. I have a question for them , i like watching mexican soccer games will i
    turn mexican ?

  11. Mexico is part of American including all of it history, President Abraham
Lincoln made it so The entire West coast, south East boarder to TEXAS were
part of Mexico. You don’t just get the land. You get people and all of
    their heritage it’s not exchangeable

    • Mexicans have exponentially more history in this country than Trump, his
immigrant mother, immigrant grandparents, immigrant 1st and 3rd wives, etc.

    • +Daniel Larini We “can’t spell or pronounce” what? I’m sure of a couple of
things, most of us know how to make a complete sentence and use capitol
      letters on proper nouns.
